The Minas Gerais band Paradise in Flames, formed by André Damien (vocals and guitar), Nienna (vocals), Robert Aender (bass), SJ Bernardo (drums) and Guilherme de Alvarenga (vocals and keyboards), has confirmed its first tour in Japan, where it will perform in November alongside the Swedish band Marduk, which is celebrating its 35 years on the road.

“The invitation to tour in Japan came with great joy and a sense that we are on the right track! Playing in Japan means a lot, both personally and professionally. Professionally, every metal band dreams of getting there, because it is a land of great opportunities. Personally, it represents overcoming the past and moving towards a better future,” commented Guilherme de Alvarenga.

“We have always admired Japanese culture, its tradition, respect and passion for heavy music. It will be a unique moment to present to the Japanese public a work that mixes the heaviness and theatricality of our sound with the roots and influences of our land,” added André Damien.

In addition, the band has been promoting the concept album “Blindness” with an extensive tour of Brazil, which will continue in July and will include some dates with Crypta. “It will be a great pleasure to tour Brazil with our new show. It will be a challenge due to the long distances, but we are ready.

Each show will be a chance to share our energy, celebrate Brazilian metal and strengthen ties with fans from all regions. It will be a time for reunions, new connections and to show, on stage, all the passion we put into what we do”, declared Robert Aender.

“Blindness”, Paradise in Flames’ fifth album, is a conceptual work with an operatic musical structure. Released by Demoncratic Records in partnership with Xaninho Discos, it was produced and mastered by Tue Madsen at Antfarm studio (DIN). “Blindness” addresses philosophical themes by portraying religion as a psychological disease that blinds human beings. Amidst the unbridled search for power, the album exposes human perversity when there are no longer hierarchical structures of control.

The video was directed and produced by Davidson Mainart, Alice Austrian and Andre Damien. With a more minimalist look and a magnificent clip, the band has been showing a phenomenal chemistry of its 5 musicians. Currently the line-up is: Mortis on keyboards and vocals, Damien on guitar and vocals, Adrian on drums, Aender on bass and Guilherme de Alvarenga on keyboards and backing vocals.

As special guests on this tour, Swedish veterans DIABOLICAL will enter the stage right before Batushka. 25 years after their formation in northern Sweden, Diabolical is now bringing a special set to life, as a part of their anniversary tour.

Paradise In Flames takes the biggest step of their career with the release of the new album, “Act One”, now available on streaming platforms by Blood Blast, digital subsidiary of the German label Nuclear Blast, and in physical version by Demoncratic Records. The title “Act One” refers to the opening of the black theater curtains and goes against the stylistic changes and the new phase of the Minas Gerais group, formed by André Damien (vocals and guitar), O.Mortis (vocals), Robert Aender (bass), SJ Bernardo (drums) and Guilherme de Alvarenga (vocals and keyboards). “We wanted to frame a style dynamic a little different from what we are labeled today. We believe that we have finally found our musical identity and we played a mix of styles, in which we called horror metal. We saw it as the ‘first act’, as it is our own first work with the new format of the band, which consists of three vocalists, with voices and interpretations different from each other, causing the possibility of dialogue in the songs. It’s a kind of rebirth”, declared vocalist and guitarist André Damien.

The production, recording and mixing of “Act One” were made by the band at the studio Maçonaria do Audio, in Nova Lima (MG). The mastering was done by renowned sound engineer Ted Jensen (Gojira, Mastodon, Metallica, Behemoth, Korn), at Sterling Sound, in New Jersey (USA). “The band is going through a new phase and we finally managed to deliver a phonographic material that we have pursued for years, with a cohesive formation and a strong desire to make it happen. We used the idle time that the pandemic unfortunately provided to produce and record an album that reflected the personality of each of us,” observed vocalist O.Mortis.

The successor to “Devil’s Collection” (2020) also marks the first time the group presents a song divided into two chapters: “The Sinner and “Delirium”. “These songs are part of a theatrical history. They complement each other and have a continuation of the protagonist’s story. Furthermore, all musical structure, scales and keys are references to a single song. It can be complicated and the most unprepared may even question how there are two songs that sound the same or that sound totally different, but the interesting part is that similar scales are used in both compositions, but reversing the order of tonalities”, detailed André Damien.

The opening of the repertoire brings an orchestration amended by “Old Ritual to an Ancient Curse”, a harsh black metal that recalls the roots of Minas Gerais. “The lyrics speak of a liberation ritual performed in the middle of the forest, which fits with the vocalizations of the chorus in the evocation”, explained O.Mortis.

“Bringer of Disease” is considered the “working song on the record”. “It will have an official clip scheduled for February 2022. The lyrics reflect a tragicomic opera, similar or not to what we live in the political scene in Brazil”, pondered the vocalist and keyboardist Guilherme de Alvarenga. “Another one that has this tone is ‘Evil System’, in which the lyrics have a heavy criticism of the way our rulers treat corruption and disregard for the future of their peoples. Musically, it has quick passages mixed with orchestrations that resemble thriller movies,” added bassist Robert Aender.

The new conception of Paradise In Flames is presented in the tracks “Learn from Mistakes” and “Dancer of the Mist”. “One of the most different songs of our career is ‘Learn from Mistakes’, which comes with more modern elements. It already has a video, which has surpassed more than 83,000 views and is the one that had the most hits on digital platforms”, celebrated drummer SJ Bernardo “The track ‘Dancer of the Mist’ sums up well what is this new phase of the band. In addition to technical passages and orchestrations contrasting with the extremely fast tempo, each verse is sung by a vocalist”, added André Damien.
